Am i any good mw....?

From seeing a concert of a professional artist whose songs are well known by heaps of people and .... you get the point i think, i can't help to wonder if mine (songs and music) are any good. i feel that i have this perfectionist streak (not trying to boast about it), almost a different person, snuk in through the force field into my mind, sitting there looking at the bad side of things that tells me, "you're not finished that one, it doesn't sound that good yet..." always looking for more (note, that i do push myself to come up with stuff that would be worth singing back to me at a concert), most of the times i feel that my songs aren't very good at all; because i wrote them... (sometimes i like them, like when i first write them and other times, sometimes i think they are really really clever and am not sure whether other people would appreciate how clever they are, even some of the titles on these posts are sheer ... ok enough of my own trumpet..) its like that feeling of eating a dinner that you cooked vs going out to a restaurant where you have your dinner cooked for you presented to you (without having to think about it) and it doesn't come out of the comercial containers that most goods do. When i hear other people's songs, i havn't gone through the process of writing, playing, rewriting, putting chords to, rewriting, revising, thinking of a better way to express things and things like that. The same thing happens with playing guitar, when i see john mayer do his amazing solos at his concert, i don't have to be pushing -my- fingers to the fret board, or thinking about whether it sounds good enough - don't get me wrong, i love soloing, just playing along - but i wonder if it is any good, if i cranked my amp up and filled a room, with everyone wanting to listen to me and my tunes would they care....

Well - he obviously is an exceptional guitar player and artist...so naturally I guess you'd feel the way you feel!

Don't despair, just keep doing what you are doing and practise/play/compose, you will only get better!
