Colossians 3

Check this out:

Colossians 3: 1-17

Rules for Holy Living

1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

With a click of the fingers.

Its amazing how things, cicumstances, thoughts can change really quickly one minute your sure of something and the next second after someone mutters insignficant words, it sends your mind into a spin. I was talking to one of the lecturers at uni who has worked on Hayman as a manager. He said that there wasn't a minister who lived on the island or any Christian services on the island. This threw my mind in overload.

My first response (especially after KYCKstart) was that i should be ready to give up this thing that i have been thinking about for ages in a second if it possibly stops me living for God, and this was my first reaction, i was ready to throw it all away and just work in Sydney. My second thought was that i need to check the facts cause i have also been told the other way, that there is a minister who lives there by someone else who worked there a while. Then a friend sugested that maybe it was a chance to live without a strong Chrisitan community around me, but what if i get there and there is no Christian community, 7 months is a long time... Here i sit talking to God, wondering, asking, reading through scripture looking for help, thinking back to the time i thought of the idea, sitting in church, not an idea that i would have thought of cause i didn't really want to leave my family and friends in Sydney which made me think that maybe God may have been leading me there... and then thinking why would he then maybe stop it happeneing. In all i'm glad that i have been warned of the possiblity and to get ready for it because Hayman is coming this friday and i will confirm whether i need to "be prepared, count the cost, and make the cut".... Conviction

After KYCKstart, i feel the conviction to work harder for Christ, i feel like before i was just hanging around Christ but now i want to live each day for him more than i was before, to work towards his kingdom for myself and for all others, to pray to him each and everyday to be sharing my life with him more and letting him run it for me. I want to do all this more than before but this time i feel that i have more of a conviction and i think the message has been clarified so that i realise why i am doing it. I think that before my serving of Christ has been more regimented, more structured and upright but now i want to serve him like i did at KYCKstart, and i feel his love in me. I want to get a bigger bible, with a cover in which i can right notes to my self (i saw a friends like this) and really make it my own that i study and grow in my knowledge of God and his love and all things. I've made heaps of mistakes in the past and i know that i will always fall short but i want to make amends and i know that God forgives me and always loves me and always will no matter what. (i have tears in my eyes at the moment) Thank you God!!!!!!!!!!!

Please pray for me that i can do all this.

Thanks so much!

HUH?

I just realised that a quick explination of the last post might be in order (just in case) KYCK 07 is KYCKstart, a huge Christian school youth convention held in a big shed in Katomba each year with talks, singing and some fun on the side. Everyone comes up in church or other groups to praise God together and be encouraged, i don't go to school but i go cause i'm a leader (well that and i love it!!!!!!!)

KYCK 07!

Just wanted to say that i had an awesome time at KYCKstart!!!!!!!!!!! I will write more about the great talks, the great inspirational music, how i found the weekend, sleeping on the wooden foor and about the feeling that i may have uncontiously drove my eye into a chair leg while shifting to sleep (i'm still not sure and probably won't be!-but i know that every now and then it hurts a fair bit and it wasn't anything while i was awake...)........ More later but

God Be Praised!!!!!!!!

Les Clefs d'or (The Golden Keys)

On one of the pictures below, on the jacket of the concierge are two crossed keys on each side of his jacket (treasure hunt to find it...). Invisible maybe to the untrained eye but from todays lecture i have found out all about them.

The keys represent membership in a society of concierges worldwide with the motto 'service through friendship' ie through the links created through the society, the members can provide better service to guests through the links around the world. the example used was, if a guest wanted exclusive flowers from a special store in London, and the guest (and concierge) was in Sydney. Usual links would say - call the florist, organise for the flowers, shiping takes a couple of days. However, if the concierge was part of the Clef d'or he gets on the phone to his friend in the society and it can be done over night (they can open doors that others can't - tickets to movies already sold out, things that others can't do).

The process to get accepted into the society is very rigourus some of the things needed are:
-5 years in the hospitality industry
-3 years as a chief concierge
-5 years as an assistant to a chief concierge (these durations are approximate)
-they need to hand in a CV
-have an interview with a panel of 5 members of the Clef d'or
-
-
-
the list goes on

If i do go on to become a porter, i could move up the ranks to a concierge (which apparently is the highest position you can get to through that pathway (chief concierge)- if you want to be a general manager then you must go through front desk) it might be something i would like to attempt (clef d'or). But the day is still young and i have no idea what revelations i will recieve from my time at internship wherever it is..

Leave it to the imagination.........?

Has anyone noticed i seem to be doing this "........." alot? I have noticed....! What is this, leave it up to the imagination.....?

Plug 'n' Play!

I have just (at one'oclock!) discovered the secret to pluging my fender directly into my computer without the need to buy a new specialised cable (macs are the best!). This is sooooo good because now i can record my songs and balance the levels without the annoying buzzing sound on my guitar because i was using the built-in microphone!!! They sound soooo much better and i can put effects on them too (i don't want to much cause it means its not all me) It is soo cool but now i must get to bed (most of my great ideas come at night, i work better, probably an evening person!) cause i have to get up tomorrow to get to the gym with my mum cause i havn't been for ages to a gym (i have been playing soccer at least 2 times a week so its not like i havn't been excercising - they are energetic games!)

*note to jubileeman - i recently "got into a fight with a lawnmower" and now have very short (not gone) hair too, but i was sitting there in the barber chair watching it happen and didn't really realise, now i have to wait for it to grow back! Although it was nice to feel the breeze through my...head today at the Royal Easter Show watching other people with long hair thinking "they must be warm in the heat!" (if i could link to jubileeman here like he can i would... see link to the left or above..)

Music.....

I have had an idea... if i can get it running, i might start adding my music to my posts so as to..... well i have no idea why, just thought it might be a cool idea to get it at least playing somewhere that people might be able to hear it.....not entirely sure how to add widgets though and all that sort of stuff to get the mp3 player on the screen...

Memorabilia

Some memorabilia from the concert....

Am i any good mw....?

From seeing a concert of a professional artist whose songs are well known by heaps of people and .... you get the point i think, i can't help to wonder if mine (songs and music) are any good. i feel that i have this perfectionist streak (not trying to boast about it), almost a different person, snuk in through the force field into my mind, sitting there looking at the bad side of things that tells me, "you're not finished that one, it doesn't sound that good yet..." always looking for more (note, that i do push myself to come up with stuff that would be worth singing back to me at a concert), most of the times i feel that my songs aren't very good at all; because i wrote them... (sometimes i like them, like when i first write them and other times, sometimes i think they are really really clever and am not sure whether other people would appreciate how clever they are, even some of the titles on these posts are sheer ... ok enough of my own trumpet..) its like that feeling of eating a dinner that you cooked vs going out to a restaurant where you have your dinner cooked for you presented to you (without having to think about it) and it doesn't come out of the comercial containers that most goods do. When i hear other people's songs, i havn't gone through the process of writing, playing, rewriting, putting chords to, rewriting, revising, thinking of a better way to express things and things like that. The same thing happens with playing guitar, when i see john mayer do his amazing solos at his concert, i don't have to be pushing -my- fingers to the fret board, or thinking about whether it sounds good enough - don't get me wrong, i love soloing, just playing along - but i wonder if it is any good, if i cranked my amp up and filled a room, with everyone wanting to listen to me and my tunes would they care....

Words Won't Work

Well, back from the concert and it was awsome. To hear him live (i have only been to 2 concerts in my life if i remember rightly) was so great, the songs that i know all the words to and love and great guitar solos playing loud and filling every inch of the room down to the seat that you are siting in (the kind of stuff you can't do at home with neighbours). The support act was probably alittle too loud and just a mush of sounds from his guitar and drums with the vocals trying to find some room to express themselves infront of black sheets over equiptment behind them taking up the stage for the main attraction but when john came out and took up the whole stage, he played those familiar melodys and it was fantastic! I can't really put it into words. It was great!!!!!

Concert!!!! (all clever title making skills are falling out the window - for tonight)

Well, taking time off from the big assesments i am currently working on - thinking about communication and how to improve mine (i think it might be in my word choice sometimes cause i can't get accross what i want to communicate in a smallish amount of words - txt messages don't make it any eaisier!)....i'm off to the John Mayer concert tonight at the Sydney Entertainment Centre!!!!!! I am really looking forward to it!! It should be great! i might even write about it afterwards....

God Bless

Defining Luxury

Just some picks of the Waldorf Astoria, we watched a video in Rooms Division about it, the day in the life of a couple of people who work in this hotel. It was really cool. It takes up a whole city block in New York and is one of the most luxurious hotels.....

The bright lights and the big city

One show i am enjoying watching at the moment is "Las Vegas". It is great to watch the goings on of a true fake hotel. The head porter is great and i try and get any posible tips that i can.... one really interesting ep. was on recently where he was teaching this guy how to find "tells" (body language that gives away bluffs etc in poker) i found this interesting cause i am doing communications (comms) and in comms we study non-verbal communication or body language and he was showing all these "tells" like people "staring down" when they were lying and other subcontious things. Now i know it is only a show but it is really cool and i wonder if it is true and they are minute and i want to now go searching for them (not for gambling purposes but to further my communication realted industry)...

Luxury everywhere....

We all love pics of hotels don't we...? Well, i do so i will try and put as many asthetically pleasing pics on posts for yourenjoyment....

Rooms* of Communications*

The course that i am doing is very enjoyable. i see it as intersting information that is useful not only for working at Hayman/a hotel (i am using Hayman as encouragement for learning) but also for everyday life. We learn how people communicate and how to improve it (hopefully). I would love to be a porter (or really any position on hayman except food and beverage - nothing personal just not as exciting for me - not as much human interaction and i will drop all the plates!) on Hayman, porters would help guests and have great communication skills (i know i have to work on these, they don't come with the job) but you greet guests, help them, organise stuff for them and such. i think that i enjoy helping other people and interacting with them. Rooms Division (front desk operations and such -checking people in and the like) is also really great cause i will really be able to use it and i loved sitting there and finding out all the secrets of how to be a good porter/concierge. Personal Development for the workplace is also sooo useful, helping us get together all of our things to apply for a job -Resume help, Application letters, interview help etc. They are all great!!!! I love it!!

*(technical jargon for two courses at uni- "Personal Communications in Organisations" and "Rooms Division Operations")(you can see why the abbreviations (why is abbreviation such a long word -hahaha)

Future on the horizon, see it sitting on the beach...

Well, the biggest news is that, the hotel school has a 7 month intership period and my plans are to apply and hopefully go and work on Hayman Island Resort. It would be awsome, living on the island in the staff quarters, working whenever they want me to, i have been told there is a chapel on the island with a minister (hopefully services), staff are allowed to use almost everything on the island (with small exceptions) i can keep in touch with my family and friends through video camera and skype/email (although not as 'real' as before obviously) and you would work amoungst this hotel!!! Cool!!

Of course i commit these plans to God and i know that he will be with me, helping me stay strong and live to his praise and glory. The truth is that when i started thinking about internship, i wanted to stay close to family and friends in sydney cause i didn't want to leave them again but then i got this idea in church while i was sitting there i started to think about hayman island and working there and then it became a stronger and stronger feeling....the work of God in my life........?

I am still alive

Just a quick one to say.. i am still here, i have just been off doing stuff, it was really interesting, here i was walking up this hill and there was the lion and i....... well i won't provide excuses! So Hi once again and i will tell you some stuff thats been circulating.....
